The legendary New York Cosmos are back. And to mark the Club's rebirth, Umbro has applied its celebrated Football tailoring ethos to this brand new collection.
The 2011 Collection is the first step on the road to the rebirth of the New York Cosmos. Originally founded in 1971 and competing in the North American Soccer League until 1984 the Cosmos went on to become the strongest franchise in the league - both financially and competitively. This success enabled the club to sign internationally famous stars such as Brazilian Pele and West German Franz Beckenbeaur. These acquisitions made the Cosmos into 'the most glamorous team in World football.'
The Cosmos had become an on-pitch manifestation of all things New York - aspiration, hard-work, glamour and success. A potent formula generated by the cosmopolitan mixture within the team. the famous team of 1977 shaped themselves into as much of an icon as the Empire State building - iconic performances and an iconic kit.
However, after Pele's retirement attendances and the popularity of the league declined and in 1984 the team folded. Jump to present day and the New York Cosmos collection blends modern day New York with flashes of '77 Cosmos style to set the Club back on the road to greatness.
